The distinctive food at El Pozo is only a portion of the experience. Much of your enjoyment will come from your hosts. The beautiful and precocious Claire Hunter, you will meet at the bar or when seated; the infinitely affable Christian Dreyfus, you will see in the open kitchen, meticulously preparing your dinner.
The two met in Santa Cruz, California in 2005. Both having extensive bar and restaurant experience, it was later agreed that the dream of their own establishment could be fulfilled. And it would be done in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.
If you ask Christian why it is he chose San Juan, he will tell you, standing arms akimbo, in his trademark shorts and argyle socks, that he fell in love with the town, and the people, while on a surfing trip in April 2006. Ask Claire the same question and she'll tell you, with whimsy and girlish charm, that she knew with Christian, she could do anything, anywhere.
